Being that Drake is hosting SNL on May 14, XXL couldn't help but wonder how many other rappers have been granted the opportunity. Although aware that it was a very small number, the staff wasn't sure just how many. Turns out that only five rappers have taken on the gig and Drake is the only rapper to have done so in the last 10 years, hosting two times actually — once in 2014 after the release of his last album, Nothing Was The Same.

The last time a rapper hosted other than Drake, was in 2006, when Ludacris starred on the show shortly after the release of his sixth studio album, Release Therapy. Prior to that, Snoop Dogg hosted two years earlier, following the success of "Drop It Like It's Hot." Queen Latifah has also hosted twice, in 2003 and 2004, shortly after her Oscar nomination for her role as Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago. The first rapper to host SNL is seemingly MC Hammer, who took a stab at the gig back in 2001.

Even though the show doesn't seem to heavily embrace rappers as hosts, their constant support of having them as musical quests can't be overlooked. There has also been a ton of unforgettable skits featuring rappers during the show's 40-year history.

Check out all the rappers that have hosted in the gallery above.
