In an ugly night for hip-hop, a shooting broke out at T.I.'s show in Irving Plaza in New York City last night (May 25) that left one man dead and three other victims injured. In the middle of the chaos, video was captured by Jon John TV of T.I. protecting one of the victims with his bodyguard as he called for an ambulance.

Around the 1:37-mark of the video you can see Tip—who's been known to save lives—and his bodyguard ushering people from the backstage dressing room and establishing order while calming individuals down. TMZ also caught footage of the moment all hell broke loose, which you can see below.

“Call the ambulance, we got somebody in here, they been hit and they need some attention,” one bodyguard said.

As authorities entered the venue, the bodyguards got the paramedics' attention so they could perform treatment on the victim. By the end of the clip, T.I. and his team hop into their SUV and drive away.

The shooting broke out backstage in a green room above the stage of the Union Square venue around 10 p.m. Reports say Maino and Troy Ave's respective crews may have gotten into a scuffle that quickly escalated, but Maino quickly shut those rumors down. An employee told New York Daily News that the gunman and the victims were all credentialed guests with access to the V.I.P. area. Video of the shooting backstage popped up and it sounds like four to five shots were fired.

The victim that was killed was B$B member Ronald "Banga" McPhatter, 33, who died after being shot in the stomach. Troy Ave was shot in the leg and was driven to NYU Langone Medical Center in an SUV. 50 Cent visited the Brooklyn rapper at Bellevue Hospital early this morning. The third and fourth victims were Maggie Heckstall, 26, who was shot in the leg and Christopher Vinson, 34, who was shot in the chest.

Speaking with WCBS 880 this morning (May 26) about the incident, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton referred to some rappers as “basically thugs.”

“The crazy world of these so-called rap artists who are basically thugs that basically celebrate violence they did all their lives, and unfortunately that violence often times manifests itself during their performances, and that’s exactly what happened last evening,” said Bratton.

He continued, saying, “The background of a lot of these young people, they are significant artists in that world…but unfortunately the lifestyles that they lived…often time follows them into the entertainment world and the success they have in it…It’s unfortunate. You’d like to think that with all the wealth that comes from the fame, that they’ll be able to turn their lives around but they continue hanging out with the same people they hung out with when they came out of that world of desperation, poverty, and crime.”

Prior to the shooting that took place at his Irving Plaza show last night, T.I. joined Anderson .Paak on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon stage as the two performed the intro to “Heart Don’t Stand a Chance” followed by “Come Down.”
