Nick Cannon is getting serious about mental health.

Mental health always seems to come with a stigma. It's more common that discussions about mental illness are often shunned or swept under the rug rather than put on front street. In the music industry conversations, about mental health awareness are just as few. Both Chris Brown and Mariah Carey have struggled with mental health issues, which according to NAMI also affects 43.8 million, or 18.5 percent of American adults in a given year.

Those numbers prompted Nick Cannon and Santi Das, a 25-year music executive, to launch Silence the Shame, an initiative dedicated to ending the stigma associated with mental health issues by encouraging people to share their stories and seek help and support. Das spearheads the movement from her own personal experiences with depression and her father's suicide, which occurred when she was just 7 months old. Cannon was looped in to champion the campaign in the music industry.

"I believe we need to have more opportunity for more people to share their stories in order to change what's going on in mental health," the Wild-N-Out host said. "We've all dealt with it personally, whether it's our families or people we love." Cannon ended his message with a PSA: "If you or anyone you love needs help, shine light on the darkness and silence the shame."

Nick's Silence the Shame initiative originally kicked off in the beginning of May for Mental Health Awareness Month. To learn more about Silence the Shame visit here.
