Slick Rick is hitting the road. The iconic rapper recently became a citizen of the United States and decided to celebrate this achievement by going on tour.

"I'm celebrating a new beginning and am thankful for the many blessings already coming my way," Slick Rick said. "One is the blessing of doing what I do best – perform – to celebrate the victory of citizenship after living in this country for so many years. We will celebrate in style."

The "Children's Story" rapper was born in England and moved to the United States when he was 11. Slick Rick's road to citizenship involved a 23-year legal process that saw the U.S. government try to boot him out of the country multiple times over a 1991 felony charge.

"This has been a long time coming for me, and I am relieved to finally put this long chapter behind me," Slick Rick said a few weeks ago. "I want to thank everyone – my family, friends and fans – who have supported me and stuck by me over these 23 years. I am truly blessed."
