If you don't know who Kamaiyah is, allow her to introduce herself.

The friendly, laid-back Oakland native can seriously spit, holding her own among San Francisco Giants (pun intended) like E-40 and Too $hort. Her debut mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto, features the likes of Zay on "Out the Bottle" and YG on the track "Fuck It Up." Since its release in March, she's been thrust into the realm of MCs on the rise.

With a stellar run at Austin's SXSW Festival under her belt and more festival announcements this summer, Kamaiyah is focused on building her profile with shows and continuous studio sessions.

When the 24-year-old stopped by the XXL office, she spoke candidly about the industry recognition she's received thus far. Though she's become somewhat of a hometown hero for the Bay Area, its a coveted co-sign from the North that has given Ill Yaya the confidence to take her sound global.

"I have a huge feature coming," Yaya tells XXL confidently with a gold-toothed grin as she gives a nod in the direction of Drake's XXL Magazine cover from 2013. Kamaiyah's "huge feature" is with Drake. She explains that the collaboration happened after a few "follows" on social media. After an exchange of contact information, one of Kamaiyah's songs found its way to the 6 God's ear.

"Drake was like, “Yeah, I fuck with her shit. Send me her shit. And he was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be the anthem, I’m about to send my verse over,’” she says.

Kamaiyah's manager, Francois Wiley, confirmed the song, saying, "Drake followed her on Instagram back in December and they've been talking, texting and yeah, there is a Kamaiyah and Drake record on the way."

Although Wiley says this new record is not on Drizzy's upcoming album, Views From the 6, it will be out within the next month -- just in time for the warm weather.
In the meantime, get on Kamaiyah's wave with her debut project, A Good Night in the Ghetto.
