Royce Da 5’9″ Relives His Most Powerful Day in “Tabernacle” Video

After teasing the video with a behind the scenes look, Royce Da 5'9" released the official video for "Tabernacle" on Tuesday (March 15), and the visuals match-up every bit to the song's powerful and autobiographical roots. In the video, Royce raps from various unoccupied spaces as actors, including Royce's own son, relive what Royce has called the most powerful day in his life, when he lost his grandmother, welcomed his newborn son and met Eminem all within a 24 hour span.

"Tabernacle" is the lead single off Royce's upcoming solo album Layers, his first stand-alone project in nearly five years. In a recent interview with XXL, Royce said the record may be an unconventional single, but it speaks immense truth to his journey.

"When I got sober almost four years ago a whole lotta memories just started hitting me, like a whole lotta things from my childhood and a whole lotta reflecting started to happen," he said. "And obviously it started to show in my music. 'Tabernacle' was the first record I wrote when I got sober, the very first record I recorded. Sometimes on your single you got somethin’ to say, you got somethin’ you gotta get off your chest. You got something you want to let people know, let people in on. And that’s pretty much where I’m at in my career. I’m not really focused on how many radio spins I can get or how many clubs my music is playing in. I really just wanna do cool shit and put shit out that means something. So that’s why I decided to go in this direction."
