The first round of performers for the 2016 Essence festival were announced on Tuesday (Mar. 1) and it looks like a diverse range of hip-hop and R&B acts will be featured. The 22nd annual celebration will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana and span five stages over four nights beginning June 30 and ending July 3.

Announced headliners for the festival include Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey and Maxwell with additional performances by Babyface, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Dej Loaf, Jidenna, Jeremih, BJ the Chicago Kid, MC Lyte, Little Simz, Lady Leshurr, The Internet, Doug E. Fresh, Tyrese, New Edition, Faith Evans and more.

In a statement, Essence president Michelle Ebanks voiced her excitement for the line-up, writing, “The Essence Festival is back in New Orleans with an extraordinary roster of the biggest names and best performers in entertainment—from global music icons to the industry’s rising stars.”

This year's festival will also include its first-ever World Music Superlounge which will feature artists from across the globe including Wizkid, Zakes Bantwini and Skye Wanda representing Durban, South Africa. For tickets and additional information, visit the Essence Festival official website.

Last year's festival was likewise headlined by Kendrick Lamar and also featured performances by Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Usher and Common. Missy Elliott also performed last year, delivering an hour-long set that was eventually cut off. Those looking for some extraordinary Fourth of July plans best prepare to get to N.O. come summer.
