North Philly MC Lil Uzi Vert took the rap game by storm when he dropped his debut LUV is Rage. From the time the colorful dread-headed "All My Chains" rhymer first hit the scene he immediately drew comparisons to other internet sensations. But it's a former Freshman who influenced Uzi the most.

Uzi recently stopped by the Sway in the Morning show and reveled that besides listening to Marilyn Manson and other rock stars, he also listens to Chief Keef a lot. “I am not gonna lie I listen to a lot of Sosa,” Uzi said at around the 12:29 mark of the video. Sway asked him why he thinks a lot of trap music artists have a similar sound or accent. “Even in my earlier days of rapping [I listened to Sosa].” “When I first started it was like a lot of A$AP… cause I started in high school.”

Uzi credits the artists he listened to most for inspiring his own sound. “Everybody always has influences, you just have to take it and make it yours,” Uzi told Sway. He cleared it up that he’s not out here to jack anyone’s style.”You can definitely listen to people that you like, you don’t take it. But of course you can have similar sound and production.”

From a business perspective it makes sense for Uzi who says he hasn’t really received any hate since he started climbing the ladder of success. Check him out on tour and see what the machine gun spitting MC is all about.
