Last year was a relatively quiet one for Schoolboy Q, but it should come as no surprise that the TDE star has been ramping up for something big. His major label debut, Oxymoron, came out at the very top of 2014, and after a brief respite, the Hoover hero hopped right back in the studio. Yesterday (Jan. 26), his label finally shared a sneak peek of some new Q music, in the form of what appears to be a snippet from a new music video.

The song--presumably called "Groovy Tony," based on the title card that flashes at the beginning--is a stark, minimal take on Q's familiar hard-nosed aesthetic. No word yet on production credits, or on the name of the project that will eventually house the song, but fans should be encouraged: it's as delightfully unhinged as all his best work. A new LP is expected to be released some time in this calendar year.

If 2015 wasn't Q's year to shine, that's because the calendar belonged to his label mate. Kendrick Lamar's sophomore album, March's To Pimp a Butterfly, rattled hip-hop at the seams, becoming easily the most talked-about LP in a year stuffed with exceptional music. Last fall, word leaked that Q and Kendrick had gotten into a bit of a scuffle in the studio; lest anyone think there was any actual bad blood, the two filmed a parody of the situation.
