‘Making a Murderer’ Convict Brendan Dassey’s Half-Brother Drops Rap Song

Netflix original series Making a Murderer was a popular binge-watch show over the holidays and the story caused such outrage that President Obama was asked to pardon two men convicted of murder in Manitowoc County, Milwaukee. Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Wisconsin photographer Teresa Halbach. There is a strong feeling amongst viewers of the docu-series that Avery and Dassey were set up by the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department and did not commit the murder. Dassey's half-brother, Brad, made a rap song called "They Didn't Do It" that reiterates the popular opinion that the two men are innocent.

Brad describes himself as an "indie Christian rapper" and posted "They Didn't Do It" on his YouTube and SoundCloud pages on Sunday, Jan. 10. On the song, the rapper defends his half brother and Avery, accusing the authorities of framing the two men. Detailing the case and the perceived injustice, Dassey raps aggressively as he calls for his family member's release from prison.

There is a chance that Brendan Dassey will be released from prison as he is waiting to hear from a federal judge about his appeal. Northwestern University's Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth took Dassey's case to federal court in Wisconsin in hopes of proving that their client was imprisoned illegally, according to NBC Chicago. Dassey was arrested at the age of 16 in connection with the murder case, but his attorneys maintain that his confession was coerced by the police. The decision on his appeal could come at any time this year.
