Jamie Hector, the actor famous in large part for playing Marlo Stanfield on The Wire, has signed on to All Eyez on Me, the biopic that will chronicle the life and times of the late Tupac Shakur.

According to Variety, Hector will play Mutulu Shakur, who became Tupac's stepfather after marrying his mother, Afeni. Aside from his work as an activist, Mutulu was a Harlem-based acupuncturist before he became a fugitive in the early- and mid-1980s. In '88, he was convicted of taking part in several robberies and homicides, and for being involved in a 1979 prison break.

All Eyez on Me has had a tumultuous journey thus far. Benny Boom, the acclaimed music video director, became the fourth director to be attached to the project when he signed on at the end of last year. John Singleton, best known for Boyz N The Hood, removed himself after saying those involved in the production were disrespectful of Pac's legacy.

Hector made his film debut in Clockers, the 1992 Spike Lee movie based on the famous novel by Richard Price. (Also appearing in his first film was a young actor named Mekhi Phifer.) He joins a cast that includes Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as 2Pac, Danai Gurira as Afeni, Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G. and many others. It's expected to be released in the United States this November, though it has run into serious production problems in the past.
