Suddenly and without explanation, Gucci Mane's social media accounts have been scrubbed from the Internet. @gucci1017 and @laflare1017 have been removed from Twitter and Instagram, respectively, in the last 12 hours, just days after the rapper or his team used the former platform to tease a possible release from prison in 2016.

Though incarcerated since late 2013, Gucci has maintained a strong presence in the Atlanta and national rap conversations, through a steady stream of music and through a consistent online presence. All that seems to have ended abruptly; while there is nothing in the way of information on who made the decision or what reason, observers have speculated about a falling out between Gucci and his handlers or pressure from prison or judicial authorities.

This isn't the first time Gucci has removed himself from Twitter. In September 2013, there was a highly publicized incident in which he lashed out at numerous people online. The rant led to rumors about the Atlanta legend's mental health, and he deleted his account the following week.

The holidays saw yet another new project from the rapper, this time in the form of East Atlanta Santa 2, a free mixtape that features Young Thug, Waka Flocka Flame, OJ da Juiceman and others.
