Yesterday (Nov. 9), Metro Boomin took to Twitter to admonish those rappers who have tried to mimic Future's perpetual motion release strategy. The young producer, who executive produced Monster, the mixtape that launched Future's inhuman run of critical and commercial success last fall (and who handled the bulk of July's Dirty Sprite 2) didn't name names. Earlier today, Young Thug dared him to, perhaps because the younger Atlantan dropped both installments of his Slime Season mixtape series in a six-week span. Metro has tweeted today, but has not responded to Thug or addressed the situation in any way, Future, however, took what seems to be an oblique shot:

Less than an hour later, Thug jumped on it:

(There was a brief wristwear aside):

In case there was any ambiguity, Thug punctuated the discussion by retweeting a Twitter user who had written, "RIP metro thuggin."

Metro Thuggin was the name of the duo that Thug and Metro Boomin had formed, and for which they had long teased a full-length collaboration. Their first single was "The Blanguage," a rework of a 2013 Drake song that hears Thug open, "I fucked her then washed off my dick with the curtains inside of the Phantom." In what is likely a coincidence, London On Da Track recently implied that he would be handling the entirety of the production duties on Thug's upcoming retail debut. (The first Slime Season was originally meant to be a single-producer affair with London as well.) Metro also chimed in and cleared up any misconception of tweets from yesterday.
