People of a certain age remember the good old days when you could get home from school, go on your family's PC, open up Napster and get any song with the click of a finger. The illegal file sharing service helped change the entire music industry and was eventually shut down in 2001. Napster returned as a legal online music store and was eventually bought out by Best Buy and Rhapsody in 2011. Four years later, Napster is throwing its hat in the music streaming ring and making a return as a subscription-based online streaming service.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Napster will relaunch in Canada with 35 million songs available for online and offline playback at CAN$9.99/month. Napster will be available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Web, Sonos and Chromecast platforms and will have customized playlists by artists like Shawn Mendes and Allesia Cara. "It was important to us that we enter Canada with a personalized music experience that has a complete catalog of local, national and international artists," said Napster CFO Ethan Rudin in a statement." If Napster really wants to make a statement in Canada, it would behoove them to somehow either get involved with The Weeknd, Drake and Justin Bieber (unlikely) or shift focus to the next crop of Canadian artists like Jazz Cartier (more feasible).
