Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have never shied away from heavy subject matter or from using their platform as musicians to address social ills, and based on "Kevin," a song they premiered during last night's AMA's, their upcoming album will feature more of that illuminating song writing. "Kevin" deals with America's affinity for prescription medicine, the pitfalls of addiction and the system that profits off of dependency. Macklemore was joined by gospel singer Leon Bridges who sung the song's chorus. There's a lot to unpack in Mack's two verses but a few standout quotes include:

"Wings clipped by the grip of 80 milligram sniffs of oxycontin/Everyday through the nostrils/Never went away, never does it stop there/Death a line or two away and a couple tall cans/Cause you never know when God is gonna call, man"

"Might as well go pop a pill and go and bathe in that problem/And escape this world, vacate this world/Cause I hate myself/No praying's gonna cure this pain"

"And then my little brother is in the sky/From a pill that a doctor prescribed/And a drug that a million dollar industry supplied"

"Kevin" joins "Downtown" as the few samplings from the duo's up-coming follow-up to their 2012 album The Heist. Check out the full version of "Kevin" below.
