Jimmy Iovine found himself in hot water when he made sexist comments during a Nov. 19 appearance on CBS This Morning. While being interviewed about the curation of Apple Music's playlists and the current ad campaign that features Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson, Iovine said, "I always knew that women find it very difficult at times--some women--to find music. And this helps make it easier with playlists, curated by real people."

As the interview went along, Iovine and Blige were asked more about the commercial and how it came about. When the longtime music exec was asked about the creative process of the commercial, he continued, "I thought of a problem: Girls are sitting around talking about boys, or complaining about boys when they're heartbroken, or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it's hard to find the right music. Not every one has the right list or has a friend that's a DJ."

The interview continued on about Apple Music's growth and Jimmy's move from Beats to Apple but the backlash for Jimmy's quotes about women caused him to release the following statement:

"We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize."

Gayle King, one of the broadcasters for CBS This Morning, showed support for Iovine via her Twitter account:
