Big Boi's been a fixture in hip-hop since the mid-1990s, but a turn as a major pop culture force had to have seemed unlikely. Where Andre was the wildly experimental one who had designs on being the world's biggest rock star, Antwan was grounded in gator suits and patty melts. Yet here we are, 15 years after the release of the last true Outkast album, and Big Boi is hitting the stage on late-night shows as part of yet another outfit. Performing with Phantogram as Big Grams, he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to play two songs off the group's self-titled EP. You can catch them running through "Goldmine Junkie" up top or "Drumline" down below; the latter featured an assist from the Brooklyn Express Drum Line.

Big Boi dropped his first post-Outkast solo record in 2010, with Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty opening to rave reviews from critics and fans. Despite years of label red tape to wade through (and despite that bureaucratic nightmare keeping Andre off the record), that LP was a current take on the low-end heavy funk from which the MC came. Its follow-up, 2012's Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, was not as well received, but serves as the genesis for the Phantogram collaboration. At press time, there was no current word on the status of a new Big Boi solo record.
