When Drake dropped the "Hotline Bling" video earlier this week, it reignited an authorship controversy that had been simmering for months. Aubrey's song sampled the Timmy Thomas hit "Why Can't We Live Together," making for the same sound that D.R.A.M.'s "Cha Cha" had struck a few months prior, by recreating the sample with sounds from Super Mario. "Hotline Bling" was debuted through Apple Music as a "Cha Cha Remix," a descriptor that has since been dropped. The Virginia up-and-comer has made his feelings clear about the situation; over at NPR, Dave Tompkins has a masterful look back at the Thomas original. But today (Oct. 23), none of that matters. D.R.A.M. has dropped his brand-new EP, GAHDAMN!, and "Cha Cha" can now shimmy back behind the new addition to his catalog.

And that's usually true--with just two features, courtesy of SZA and The Social Network's Donnie Trumpet, the spotlight is squarely on the Atlantic Records upstart. Earlier this year, his breakout single scored him a handful of very famous co-signs:

Nonetheless, GAHDAMN! is a personal, auteurish record that should serve to introduce D.R.A.M. to legions of new fans outside his East coast home. Stream the new project in its entirety below courtesy of Spotify.
