Illa J, Detroit rapper and young brother of J Dilla, releases his first solo work since 2008′s Yancey Boys, which was entirely produced by his older brother. Illa J was made without the use of samples and was produced mostly by Potatohead People plus some help from Kaytranada and Iva Ave. On the 11-track self-titled album, Canadian rapper Moka Only makes several appearances.

Illa steps out from his older brother shadow and reintroduces new hip-hop lovers to his solo career. Illa J moved to Montreal for newfound inspiration and life experiences, which he incorporated in his new album. It's always difficult to standalone after following n the footsteps of but Illa does it masterfully with his new project. In other news, Dilla's mother is teaming up with Vintage Vibez Music Group to drop another collection of rare material. The album, called Dillatronic, is available for pre-order now on glow-in-the-dark CD or three-LP vinyl; both runs are limited. There are also deluxe packages that include a variety of new merchandise, and one that includes passes to the annual Dilla Day Weekend this February in Miami.
