Just like her one-time boyfriend and father of her child, Michel'le started out dropping music on Ruthless, then moved over to Death Row. But before the singer and Dr. Dre broke up, she was allegedly subject to horrible physical abuse at the legendary producer's hand. In an interview with Vlad TV, she admitted that she hasn't yet seen Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A. biopic from which her story has been excised. When asked to speculate as to why no character was based on her, her answer was disarming: "I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up." She added that her storyline "has no value" to the kind of myth-making one might expect when a member of the group is one of the film's executive producers.

Michel'le and Dre have a 24-year-old son, Marcel, with whom the singer says Dre has a solid relationship. Though the two parents never speak, Marcel apparently hopes to score films, and his father has taken him under his wing in the studio. Three years after Dr. Dre left Death Row Records, in the spring of 1996, Michel'le married Suge Knight, who co-founded the label with Dre and who continued to run the operation after the artist's departure. They have a teenaged daughter, Balei, who Michel'le says "sings like a bird." Dre and his N.W.A. cohort DJ Yella co-produced Michel'le's self-titled 1989 debut, released through Ruthless. Eazy E served as executive producer; the album was eventually certified platinum.
