19 Hip-Hop Artists Who Have Met With Minister Louis Farrakhan
Minister Louis Farrakhan is a Black icon whose life's work has touched every corner of the culture, hip-hop included. The Nation of Islam minister has mediated in the resolution of rap beefs, hosted artists at summits and most recently spoke at Nipsey Hussle's homegoing service.
"Our brother never left the hood," Farrakhan said of Nipsey. "What do I mean by that? He is the prophetic voice of all in the community. He lived the gang life, but he didn't stay there... When we celebrate Nipsey, we must celebrate unity."
Back in 2015, Minister Louis Farrakhan sat down with several Atlanta rappers to discuss the injustices currently affecting the United States, meeting with the likes of 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Big K.R.I.T. and others. Prior to that, he's met with Compton rapper The Game, sat down with Charlamagne, Angela Yee and DJ Envy on The Breakfast Club, and even helped resolve Common and Ice Cube's intense feud in the 1990s. (His attempt to mediate Ja Rule and 50 Cent's bad blood was unfortunately unsuccessful.)
Today Louis Farrakhan is in the news for being banned from Facebook and Instagram due to what the platforms cite as violations against the platform's rules against hate speech. Yet hip-hop has his back—Snoop Dogg has already called out both social networking sites, coming to Farrakhan's defense. XXL highlights some of the rappers who have met with the honorable minister over the years.
