Vince Staples is unflinching. The 2015 XXL Freshman has made a name for himself off the strength of dead-eyed mixtape turns and last year's grim, swaggering EP, Hell Can Wait. Now, with a grip of beats from DJ Dahi, Clams Casino and his de facto boss, No I.D., the Long Beach rapper has made his debut album available to stream. Due out June 30, Summertime '06 is a rare double-disc debut album (albeit one that runs only 59 minutes). Yet that trio of producers--plus a spot assist from the duo Christian Rich, who produced the Future-sampling "Senorita"--keep the proceedings churning forward. Summertime '06 is loose, lean, kinetic. Vince's contributions are varied, too: His first official LP is full of his trademarked po-faced fatalism ("Norf Norf"), but also stretched syllables and acrobatic flows ("Jump Off the Roof") and drawled harmonizing ("C.N.B."). In short, it's not just one of the best albums of 2015 so far, but one of the best rap debuts in recent memory.

Staples first rose to prominence in Odd Future's peripheries, but quickly distinguished himself with his first mixtape, Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1 in 2011. Collaborative work would follow and, last year, the second installment of Coldchain. He has been widely praised by his peers and elders in the genre; his signing to Def Jam was underscored by heavy praise from No I.D. and his longtime collaborator, Common, who tapped Staples for the single from his last studio album.
