The Roots will be in rare company this May 30 when they host their eighth annual Roots Picnic festival in Philadelphia. Joining the legendary crew as headliners will be the elusive Erykah Badu, Canadian R&B singer The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky and more, including Atlanta newcomer Raury and New York's precocious Bishop Nehru. The celebration will be held at Philadelphia's Festival Pier.

While other rap acts who cut their teeth in the same underground circuits as The Roots did in the mid- and late-'90s have either graduated onto legacy tours or are sadly slipping out of the public consciousness, you can catch ?uestlove and the gang beamed into your living room every night. As the house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the underground stalwarts have played in some of the country's most respected--and infamous--celebrities. The band has been on the receiving end of considerable critical acclaim; five of their records have been nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys. Their most recent effort, 2013's Undun, is a concept album told in reverse, where a troubled man's unraveling can be traced backward from effect to cause.
