Asher Roth is not going to posture for anyone. The perpetually blunted rapper, first vaulted to fame with his unassuming "I Love College," is settling nicely into his role as a cult artist, beloved by the crowd who owns boat shoes but probably not a boat. His new video, the Buddy-assisted "Sayin' Whatever," is not your standard hip-hop clip; it's not even a day that most viewers would recognize as an actual experience humans have. Nonetheless, he and Buddy hit the mini-golf course, complete with the latter's head-to-toe alligator costume and enough sweater vests to smother a burning caddy shack.

Asher is prepping a project with the production duo Blended Babies, who helm "Sayin' Whatever." That record is expected in May; Roth has been hard at work promoting his album RetroHash, which was released last spring to a warm reception from his fans. Roth rose to fame in 2009--that year, along with being named to XXL's freshman class, he released both "I Love College" and his major label debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. The album was not well received by critics, sending Roth out of the limelight to hone his sound and connect with a more receptive audience. Since then, he has released three mixtapes, most recently The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2.
