Mural of The Notorious B.I.G. Is Coming to the Grocery Store He Worked At

Danielle Mastrion wants to create a mural of The Notorious B.I.G. on the side of the Key Food market in Brooklyn's Clinton Hill neighborhood, where Biggie used to work at during the summers before he was famous. Mastrion told DNA Info what she has planned for the Biggie mural.

"This is about his roots and not the rap icon that he became," she said. "It will be of him as a child sitting on the steps of his brownstone, like any other kid in the neighborhood."

Mastrion is best known for her Beastie Boys mural on the Lower East Side. She's also discussed a few different options for the mural, explaining that she's deciding to portray Biggie as "a shadow on the corner of St. James and Fulton and the neighborhood will be the focus, not him." The Mural was commissioned by Key Food owners and organized by Leroy McCarthy. McCarthy is a film location scout who petitioned to name a Brooklyn corner after the late Notorious B.I.G. back in October 2013. Biggie, born as Christopher Wallace, was raised near the corner of St. James Place and Fulton Street in Clinton Hill.

The mural will take just three days to complete and will start sometime later this month.
