Pharrell, Common And Beyoncé Show Support For #BlackLivesMatter At Grammys
Pharrell, Common and Beyoncé both showed support to the "Black Lives Matter" movement at 2015 Grammy Awards. At the 2015 Golden Globe on Jan. 11, Common and John Legend received an award for Best Original Song for Selma‘s “Glory.” Common gave a passionate speech on Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of non-violence.
“The first day I stepped on the set of Selma, I began to feel like this was more than a movie. As I got to know the people of the civil rights movement, I realized I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote. I am the caring white supporter, killed on the front lines of freedom. I am the unarmed black kid,who maybe needed a hand, but instead was given a bullet. I am the two fallen police officers, murdered in the line of duty. Selma has awakened my humanity”, said Common.
After the deaths of Eric Garner, Mike Brown and many other black men and women in America over the last couple of years, to see musicians make a statement on a huge platform like the Grammys is major. Beyoncé, Common and John Legend closed the show. You can watch their performances below.
