Chance The Rapper has been making a concerted effort to expand his horizons, and it sounds as if he's no longer limiting himself to even one creative medium. In a conversation with comedian (and fellow Chicagoan) Hannibal Buress for Interview magazine, the young rapper reveals that he auditioned for Straight Outta Compton, the upcoming N.W.A. movie. Chance auditioned for the role of Dr. Dre but, he says, it "wasn't in God's plan."

Thus far in his career, Chance has only made television or film appearances as himself, such as when he guest starred on Comedy Central's The Eric Andre Show, on which Buress is a cast member. Chance is currently working on Surf, the debut album from his collective, The Social Experiment. The record will be officially credited to Donnie Trumpet, and will be released "Beyoncé-style," which is to say it could be dropped without warning and with little in the way of traditional press. Chance first garnered national attention following the release of his stellar 2013 mixtape, Acid Rap.

As for Buress, the burgeoning comedian has had a tremendous past year, scoring roles on both Eric Andre and Comedy Central's breakout hit, Broad City. He has also been touring extensively and received some high-powered cosigns, from the likes of Louis C.K. and Chris Rock. No stranger to hip-hop, Hannibal appeared last year on Open Mike Eagle's "Doug Stamper (Advice Raps)" from the rapper's acclaimed Dark Comedy.

Straight Outta Compton is set for an Aug. 14 release. Ice Cube's son stars as his father.
