Grammy-Award winning rapper Chamillionaire has joined venture capital firm Upfront Ventures as an EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence).

During This Week In's Venture Capital segment, Chamillionaire discussed his "deep interest for technology" and how it affects his business decisions. "So many things in the tech world have taken [the music] industry and changed it dramatically," he said to the show's host, Mark Suster. "Because of that, there's a need for me to know what's going to come next," said the Chamillitary Entertainment CEO as he explained his desire to expand his knowledge of the technology world.

Although Chamillionaire has seen success as a rapper, he doesn't want his identity as an artists to cloud his ambitions as an entrepreneur. "There's a lot you can learn from someone else's perspective outside of what the norm is," said Cham. Inspired by the failures of people around him, the Nigerian-American is making moves within the tech industry, attending and speaking at several events and investing in digital start ups as he expands his wealth. He was an early investor in Maker Studios, an online video networked founded back in 2009 and was sold to Disney for $500 million in 2014. Currently, the "Ridin" MC is an advisor to Upfront Ventures and has a number of start ups in his portfolio.

This interview falls right in line with Kanye West's acceptance speech at the 2015 BET Honors. The hip-hop mogul encouraged Black artists to aim for more than what is expected, and Cham is doing just that. Check out the hour-long segment above.
