Today, Jan. 20, marks the 48th birthday of legendary drummer, DJ and member of The RootsQuestlove, also known as ?uestlove.

With decades in the music business, it's obvious that this hip-hop pioneer wears many different hats. ?uestlove, whose real name is Ahmir Thompson, is an accomplished drummer, DJ, producer, author and personality.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1971, Quest was raised around music, having descended from a long line of talented musicians. He started playing the drums from a very early age and while attending High School with many musicians who would go on to have stellar careers (Boyz II Men for example) Quest started a band with his homie, Tariq, who is better known by the rap game as Black Thought. Since then, he has been at the helm of the neo-soul rap band throughout the their illustrious run.

Smash cut to the present day, and together, The Roots have released 19 projects of their own, starting with their independently produced Organix in 1993, followed by 1994's Do You Want More?!!!??! under DFG/Geffen Records, which is considered by many to be the strongest album in their discography. Since February 2014, Quest and The Roots have served as the house band for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Outside of his band, the Grammy Award winner can be found behind the 1s-and-2s, DJing sets at many of the hottest parties for some of the world's most affluent people. He has also produced records for everyone from John Legend and Erykah Badu to Common and Jay-Z.

Quest has also helped design sneakers for Nike, written a memoir entitled Mo' Beta Blues and made numerous TV and film cameos over the years. Most recently, the drummer, whose hair is just as recognizable as his sound, served as the curator on the soundtrack for Michelle Obama's memoir, Becoming.

Basically, he's done it all and then some, and at the age of 48, Questlove shows no signs of slowing down yet.

Happy Birthday, Quest!
