After A$AP Yams' untimely passing yesterday (Jan. 18), his family and friends in the hip-hop community received an outpouring of support from fans, collaborators, and admirers. At a show last night in the DMV area, that eulogizing extended to Yams' inner circle as A$AP Ferg took a moment between songs to be silent for his fallen friend, before reminding the crowd: "If Yams was here to party with us right now, he might have told you he fucked your bitch."

Yams, born Steven Rodriguez, was the architect of A$AP Rocky's rise to prominence and, by extension, the leader of the A$AP Mob writ large. Though he never wrestled the spotlight onto himself, his was the most poignant backstory: the Harlem kid who interned for Dipset, then broadened his musical horizons and influences. He was 16.
