Vince Staples’ EP ‘Hell Can Wait’ Will Feature Aston Matthews And Teyana Taylor
After an impressive Summer, which included guest appearances on Common's Nobody's Smiling, Vince Staples is ready to make his Def Jam debut. The 21-year-old Long Beach native released his last mixtape Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2 back in March of this year, catching the eye of hip-hop. XXL recently caught up with Vince Staples to get more details on his forthcoming EP, Hell Can Wait, which drops Sept. 23.
Just like Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2, there wont be a lot of guest appearances on Hell Can Wait. "I got Aston Matthews and Teyana Taylor," said Staple "Besides that it's just me. I'm not for the features for the sake of features. I want it to really fit and align well with the project" There will only be seven songs on the EP with production from No I.D., Infamous and Hagler.
What made Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2 so distinguishable was the vivid imagery and impressive storytelling ability Staples displayed. Hell Can Wait looks to show the growth of the West Coast MC not only as a rapper but as a young man. "It's different," he said. "It's all about growth and progression. That’s all I can tell people about it. It’s a reflection of where I'm at right now."
Why put an EP out now? "The way I'm looking at it is the top albums are only selling 90,000 copies," said Staples. "It's no reason for me to just wait and not put nothing out."—Emmanuel C.M.
