Lifetime’s upcoming biopic on the late R&B songstress Aaliyah is offering up some interesting details about her personal life. The new film plans to shed light on her relationship with R. Kelly reports the New York Post. The two singers were allegedly married in 1994 when Aaliyah was 15 and Kelly was 27.  During her career Aaliyah often denied that they were ever married, though marriage certificate later appeared with her age falsely listed at 18. (Her parents later reportedly annulled the marriage.)

Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is based on the bestselling biography Aaliyah: More That A Woman, written by former Time magazine Music Editor Christopher John Farley. Lifetime will began filming this summer and premiere this fall.

"Aaliyah’s personal and professional relationship with R. Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect," executive producer Debra Martin Chase told Page Six. "Above all else, it’s our hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent."

Her family is currently protesting the new biopic staring Disney Channel star Zendaya. They do not approve of Lifetime making the film without their input or involvement. Aaliyah's family's protest of the film even led G.O.O.D. Music artist Teyana Taylor to turn down chance to play of the late R&B angel.
