Last week, Papoose celebrated his sixth wedding anniversary with Remy Ma, and he spoke to XXL about Remy's mindset before her release this year, which Pap mentioned on Instagram the other day would come on July 31 after more than six years behind bars.

"Yeah, she's in great spirits, man, I'm real happy to see her like that, you know what I'm saying?" he said in a phone conversation on May 13, the couple's anniversary. "I love the spirits that she's in right now, and I'm just happy for her right now, man. She's in great spirits, man."

Papoose has had a bit of a crazy past year or two after making headlines last June for rushing the stage following Kendrick Lamar's set at Summer Jam, and wound up using the exposure to craft a second wind for himself in hip-hop community, dropping his album Nacirema Dream and catching the attention of hip-hop's current golden child Lamar on multiple occasions. When talking about the current state of the game, he said last week that he couldn't name five hip-hop artists who are bringing it lyrically right now.

"These cats don't rap right now. What the fuck do they be doing?" Pap said when asked for some of his favorite lyrical rappers right now. "That's hard, man. I don't come from the old school or the new school, I come from the true school, and there's nobody impressive out there right now that's doing that. It takes a lot to impress me; I'm a study of the craft and the culture. I don't know, man. That's a tough one."

Of course, with Summer Jam right around the corner, XXL asked Pap if he had anything special up his sleeve after last year's stunt—particularly after he tweeted in April, "Who set y'all think I shout rush @ summer jam this year?"

"You never know," he said, laughing, when asked if he had plans for this year's festival. "I'm kind of like spontaneous; you never know what Papoose might do, it depends on how I'm feeling on a particular day. If I feel like coming out, I'm coming out; if I don't I'll fall back, same thing as last year. Like I did last year—I take what I want. So if I decide to take over this shit this year, that's what I'm gonna have to do. I was the headliner last year, you know what I mean? [Laughs] By choice." —Dan Rys
