Lil Wayne’s “Believe Me” Producers Boi 1da & Vinylz Explain Beat’s Conception

After teasing for days, Lil Wayne finally released the inaugural single from his (last?) forthcoming album, Tha Cater V, unveiling the Drake assisted track, "Believe Me." The song finds Tune and Drizzy trading bars over an ominous piano loop complimented with choppy drum kicks procured by producers Boi-1da and Vinylz. Revolt recently chopped it up with the two beat makers and they revealed how the beat came together and the indirect way the instrumental, which was made last year, wound up being used by Birdman Jr. “Vinylz had a beat and told me to check it out [so] I just added a few things to it and I pretty much sent it over to Drake when it was done," said Boi-1da. "Then like, I don’t know what went on but suddenly, maybe like a month later, Drake and Wayne had the record. I think he must of brought the beat to Wayne and then they worked on the record together.”

Though they knew the YM head and Aubrey were working on the record, they had no idea how it would be used. “We just knew the record happened, but we didn’t know the record would be the first single,” Vinylz added.

The two producers are no strangers to working with or making tracks the Canadian rap crooner and Wayne have laid verses on, including “No New Friends,” “5AM In Toronto” and “The Language.” They expect the new collab to be impactful. “It’s that Drake and Wayne combination," said Boi-1da. "I feel like when both of them get on a record together, they don’t usually fail man. They’re like 10 for 10 with records they’ve done together and this is just another banger.”
