Yesterday's announcement of the 2014 BET Awards nominees has being followed up with the revealing of the host for the show. BET announced today that long time comedian and actor Chris Rock will host the show on June 29.

"We've been trying to make this happen for a VERY long while, and we're ecstatic that Chris Rock will be the host of the BET Awards for the first time," said president of Music Programming and Specials at BET via a statement. "Mr. Rock is a comedic genius with a rapier who is a keen observer of pop culture."

Rock, who is no stranger to hip-hop with features on numerous albums--most notably on "Blame Game" off of Kanye West's, 808s & Heartbreak--is excited to be a part of the show.

"I watch the BET Awards every year," said Rock in a statement. "It's one of my favorite award shows combining people from movies, sports, TV and music. Where else can you get Rick Ross and Michelle Obama in the same room?! The BET Awards is like a party where nothing is off limits. My peers have done the show now it's my turn."

Drake, Jay Z, and Beyonce lead all nominees with five nominations apiece. With the recent Drake and Rihanna breakup and the Jay Z, Solange incident, this year's show may bring a few unanticipated fireworks.
