The 20th anniversary of Illmatic is proving to be a landmark event in hip-hop history. After making numerous media appearances in the past two weeks, Nas— Nas as a brand ambassador for Hennessy—will be performing at Coachella this weekend before heading back to New York for the release of Time Is Illmatic. The documentary, which takes a look at the MC’s debut album, will premiere next Wednesday, April 16 at New York City’s famed Tribeca Film Festival. Nas will reportedly perform Illmatic in it’s entirety following the premiere.

"I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they've built over the years," said Nas in a press statement. "It's an honor to premiere this film in my hometown. I also want to thank (director) One9 and (writer) Erik Parker for their persistence and hard work. Those guys and I come from the same place and era, which gives the doc an authenticity that is important to me. We wanted this film to represent the real, from the storyline all the way down to the directors and producers."-Peter Walsh
