The National Football League Players Association has launched an investigation into whether Jay-Z violated league rules in the signing of former University of West Virginia quarterback, Geno Smith, according to a report by TMZ.

Smith, a second round pick acquired by the New York Jets in this year's NFL draft, inked a deal with Jigga's Roc Nation Sports earlier this week. But, before the deal was made official, Hov and Smith posed for a picture that was later posted to Instagram which could be evidence of a violation. NFLPA rules stipulate that only agents certified with the association can be involved with the recruitment of potential clients. According to the report, Smith's agent John Thornton may have also fueled the investigation by being quoted as saying he had had meetings with Jay prior to the signing. However, Thornton later said he was misquoted.

Smith marked Hov's third big grab in his transition into sports management. Roc Nation Sports has also singed New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and WNBA rookie Skylar Diggins.
