Division II College Hoops Standout Arrested For The Murder Of Lil Phat

Another man has been arrested in connection with the 2012 murder of rapper Lil Phat. Decensae White, 25, the leading scorer on San Francisco State University's basketball team this past season, has been extradited from San Mateo County, CA to Atlanta, GA to respond to charges associated with the slaying, according to NBC Bay Area.

As previously reported, four other individuals have been indicted in the murder of Lil Phat, born Melvin Vernell III, including former Russian mobster Mani Chulpayev. The motive of the crime reportedly centers around shady car deals by Chulpayev and could also be drug-related. White's involvement with the crime is unclear, but he will face charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal participation in gang activity and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. According to the report, White moved to Atlanta in 2009 in hopes of starting a rap career. He briefly attended Texas Tech and Santa Clara University before enrolling at SFSU this past year where he starred on the men's hoops team.

Phat was killed while sitting in a car in the parking deck of Atlanta's Northside Hospital. He was awaiting the birth of his child. White is scheduled to appear in Fulton County court, May 31. Police have also arrested, Maurice Connor, DeAndre Washington, and Gary Bradford in connection with the killing.
