The hip-hop community continues to mourn the loss of Violator Management founder Chris Lighty.

Hundreds of attendees packed into the Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel on the Upper West Side of New York City on Wednesday morning (September 5) to pay their final respects to Lighty in an open casket funeral. Lighty, 44, died of “self-inflicted gunshot wounds” in his Riverdale, Bronx apartment last Thursday (August 30) at 11:33 a.m, according to the New York Police Department.

This morning, the star-studded likes of 50 Cent, Diddy, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen, LA Reid, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, LL Cool J, Mona Scott-Young and Grandmaster Flash all attended to pay their final respects to Lighty. Lighty had served as manager to 50, Busta and Diddy in particular.

Lighty’s wife, Veronica Lighty, sat at the front row of the chapel, mourning the loss of her husband.

Just two days before, she had adamantly, but tearfully refuted reports that her husband took his own life due to an argument that the two had.

“My husband was too smart of a man,” she told the New York Daily News. “He was a genius. No smart man is going to leave his children for fighting with his wife. That makes absolutely no sense.

“We had a passionate relationship,” she added. “We fought all the time.”

Last night (September 4), a Fat Joe tribute to Lighty hit the Internet, on which Joey Crack saluted his fallen friend.

“I always loved you if I never told you/And can’t describe in words how much a nigga owe you,” Joe raps over Slaughterhouse’s somber, “Goodbye” track.
