Jay-Z is clearing the decks to headline a series of concerts to kick off the opening of The Barclays Center, the new home of the Brooklyn Nets.

In an interview with Good Day New York earlier today (September 26), the Nets part owner revealed that he will perform a total of eight concerts in the new arena. Most likely the shows will take place in the three-weeks prior to the team's debut season as Brooklynites, starting on September 28, 2012, according to New York's Daily News.

“I’m going to open the building with a concert – with a couple concerts, actually,” Hov said.

Whether the series will have special guests, such as his wife Beyoncé who will have given birth to their first child by then, has yet to be determined. But when asked by reporter and fellow BK native, Rosanna Scotto, about the possibility, Hova said, “maybe.”

The forthcoming concert series is symbolic of Jay’s plans for the Nets’ new home.

“It’s going to be more than about basketball,” he said; “it’s an entertainment arena.”
