Mos Def has landed a recurring role on the popular Showtime series Dexter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the socially conscious rapper/actor will play “a hardened ex-con who claims to have found religion yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence” on the drama’s sixth season. His true identity will be exposed by main character Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall.

No word on how many episodes will feature Mos Def, but filming of the upcoming season is set to begin in June.

Mos Def’s previous television work includes stints on House and The Boondocks (as the voice of rapper Gangstalicious). He has also appeared in films such as Brown Sugar, The Italian Job and Cadillac Records. —Lauren Carter
