2016 has seen the most sneaker collaborations between hip-hop artists and footwear companies, with 2017 shaping up to be another stellar year for collaborations due in part to the success and hype around releases. Now, as sneakerheads and hip-hop fans get ready for another year of collabs, XXL looks back at all of the kicks in collaboration with hip-hop’s finest during 2016.

From adidas to Jordan Brand to Puma and Reebok, several sneaker companies tapped a few of the biggest artists in hip-hop to collaborate on some special silhouettes. The Three Stripes, known for their collaborations with Kanye West, had another incredible year with the release of new iterations of the Yeezy Boost 750 sneakers as well as the new version of the 350 V2 sneaker model.

Another successful partnership for adidas this year happened to be the one with Grammy Award-winning artist Pharrell Williams, a longtime friend and partner of the brand. Releasing the coveted adidas NMD Hu Human Race EQT yellow in the summer, Pharrell and the German sportswear brand gave sneakerheads more to rejoice in after releasing several new iterations of the popular sneaker towards the end of this year.

Another brand that enjoyed the success of a collaborative shoe with a rap act this year was Jordan Brand, who released two new Air Jordan sneakers with Canadian megastar Drake at the beginning of the year and another one during his birthday month, October.

With 2017 now around the corner, who knows what other popular hip-hop act and sneaker brand will come together to bring a sneaker collab to the masses. For now, we go back to the very start of 2016 and highlight all of the shoes dropped by a rapper with a sneaker brand this year, with the exception of the next adidas Yeezy Boost V2 "Black/White" that's scheduled to drop Dec. 17.
