17 year-old Lil Trill says he ain’t never scared, especially of one of his new favorite cities, New York. Trill, who just dropped his debut LP Rags to Riches, recently visited the Big Apple on the Scream Tour and walked right into a “riot” while taking the subway for the first time. The teen wasn’t turned off by Gotham, though. He fully plans to come back to the Empire State in the next few weeks on vacation. Here, Trill, son of Trill Entertainment CEO TK, tells XXL about his trip while out on the road.

Performing on the Scream Tour was one of the best experiences I’ve had in life. I performed for the biggest crowds ever in my career. The people made it great. Everywhere I went, they knew the Trill name. All I had to do was go out and perform. I performed in 12 cities in a month. I’m only 17, so to be 17 and go on the Scream Tour was a big accomplishment for me. It was exciting. I grew up watching Bow Wow and other artists come out on the tour. I remember going to New Orleans because my sister loved him so much: “Oh Lil Bow Wow." My mom made me go (lol). So years later, when I got picked up on Scream, it was like, oh man!

Everybody on tour got along and we all interacted. Mindless Behavior, they’re like my little homies. We’re real close now. The OMG Girls, Diggy, Jacob Latimore, we’re going to do some songs together. Going on tour as kids, everybody needs to interact. So we might as well start the relationship off young. Everybody wanted to collab with each other. In LA ,we went out bowling together. Hamilton Park is the best bowler. I’m the utter ball king. In New York, we went out to TGI Fridays. Everybody exchanged numbers. I text the OMG girls everyday. They’re like my little sisters.

The best city to perform was Milwaukee. I felt like Jay-Z coming out in Madison Square Garden. When I did “Better Not Fight,” they knew every word. When I performed “Turn the Beat Up” they knew every word. New York was the best city to visit. I really loved New York. I threw my Gucci goggles out in the crowd. You can tell I really was into it. Those goggles are expensive. I had never been to New York, so I wanted to make sure I had the best show as well as get a chance to see the town. I never rode a subway, never rode a cab and got to do both. I’m from Baton Rouge, LA. I don’t see big ole billboards. I felt like a tourist. But people knew me as I walked down Times Square.

Growing up, I used to hear, “You’ll get mugged on the train.” So I went on the subway with me and some of my buddies I brought on tour. The subway was going so fast, my ears were popping. When I got off, they had some type of riot going on in the subway so we had to run up the stairs. It was funny, my first time in New York on the subway and that happens. But I loved it. I’m going on vacation soon and I want to come back to New York.
