A week before Lil Wayne is scheduled to be released from Rikers Island, a 20-year veteran corrections department captain was suspended for spending too much time in the rap star’s jail cell.

New York’s Daily News reports that Captain Raphael Collazzo raised eyebrows when he spent 45-minutes with Weezy, who is currently locked up in solitary confinement for carrying headphones and an mp3 charger—items that are considered contraband at Rikers.

It is not known why Collazzo was visiting the Young Money founder. "We don't know what he was doing,” a source told the Daily News. “We know the [security] camera picked him up." Collazzo, who was suspended without pay for 10 days, did not have a reasonable explanation for hanging with Birdman, Jr., the source said.

The president of the union for corrections captains, Patrick Ferraiuolo, spoke to Collazzo who told him, 'I have done nothing wrong...I don't have any dealings with [Lil Wayne]."

This isn’t the first time an officer has been disciplined for trying to get close with the New Orleans lyricist while he's been locked up. C.O. Amelia Negron claims she was fired for allegedly spying on the rapper earlier this year and Capt. Latanya Brown was investigated for supposedly giving Weezy special treatment.

As previously reported, Wayne is expected to be freed on November 4, after serving eight-months of a yearlong sentence for an attempted gun possession charge in the second degree, stemming from a 2007 arrest.

Young Money president Mack Maine told XXLMag.com that he may be making his return to the stage two days later as a special guest at Drake’s Las Vegas concert at the ironically titled venue, The Joint. —Elan Mancini
