This Saturday (September 29th), legendary MC Rakim will receive the prestigious I Am Hip-Hop Icon Award at the annual BET Hip Hop Awards, held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The lyricist, whose rhyme style has influenced an entire generation of hip-hop artists, will be celebrated for his contribution to the culture. His feat as one half of the legendary duo, Eric B & Rakim, has produced some of the genre's most recognized body of work, including Paid in Full, Follow the Leader, Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em, and Don't Sweat the Technique.

Previous recipients of the award include Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, Salt N Pepa and LL Cool J.
