While Maroon 5's "One More Night" continues to top the Billboard Hot 100, South Korean rapper Psy's "Gangnam Style," is rapidly approaching the No. 1 spot. The multi-faceted entertainer's single "Gangnam Style", with its widely buzzed music video for garnering the Guinness World Record for the "Most Liked Video" on YouTube, debuted on the Billboard 100 at No. 64 two weeks ago. Since then, it has shot up to the No. 11 spot the previous week, thanks to Psy's series of appearances on the MTV Video Music Awards, Saturday Night Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Today Show. Yesterday, Billboard announced that "Psy's worldwide hit 'Gangnam Style'" has reached No. 2 on the Billboard 100. According to the statistics, the song's exposure has grossed exponentially in percentage, which Billboard claims, "The song is likewise the top-gaining track on the mainstream top 40-driven Pop Songs radio airplay chart (28-19, up 95% in plays)."

When XXL spoke with the rapper two weeks ago, Psy stated, "A Korean song by a Korean artist, we call it ga-yo, it’s not K-pop. A ga-yo record placing at No. 64 on the Billboard chart is history in the making, but if it ranks a higher spot next week, and it gets into a higher spot the week after, perhaps a higher spot the week after, we’re going to see something.” Clearly, Psy and his fans across the world are witnessing history in the making. —Jaeki Cho (@JaekiCho)
