Back in 2007, Soulja Boy was an international sensation. His “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” hit single blasted throughout clubs, stadiums, high school dances, and bar mitzvahs. A teenager with a viral hit of such magnitude was a new phenomenon that reshaped the landscape of the music business.

Until 2011, the career of the 21-year-old entertainer was a roller coaster ride full of hits, lawsuits, beefs with fellow rappers, and attempted business ventures that resulted with bleak outcomes. Now, five years since his celebrated debut, and two years after The DeAndre Way, during a recent interview with DJ Skee, Soulja Boy has announced he’ll release a more mature and polished sound for his upcoming fourth studio album, Promise.

With confirmed features from Game, Waka Flocka Flame, Detail, Busta Rhymes, and DJ Khaled, the album seems like a blockbuster project that’s well...very promising on paper.

“This album’s going to sound like a whole new Soulja Boy, man,” proclaimed Soulja Boy. “Crazy beats, man, crazy lyrics, growth and maturity in my music.”

In addition to the new music and sound, Soulja Boy recently also spoke to XXLMag.com about acting alongside the likes of James Wood, David Boreanaz and Stephen Dorff in his first film, Officer Down.

“I’m playing this character named ‘Rudy,’ he explained to XXL. “It’s crazy. Once it comes out and people see me acting on the big screen, they’ll get to see a whole other side of Soulja Boy.”

He also revealed that 50 Cent is helping him remake Juice, the 1992 cult-classic film, which has the late and legendary Tupac Shakur portraying the twisted, gun-happy character of “Bishop.”—Jaeki Cho
