While his Top Dawg Entertainment brethren Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock have worked to make their stamps on the hip-hop map over the last couple years, ScHoolboy Q really made his presence felt with his most recent release, January’s Habits & Contradictions. The release earned him

“I just did a feature for Lloyd Banks’ new project, V6,” Q told XXLMag.com while on tour in Connecticut. “Me and 50 [Cent] about to do some shit. I got some shit I’ma do with A-Track, Danny Brown, Childish Gambino—he just hit me up last night.”

The Los Angeles native gave a few details on the joint with Banks, and promised it would be one to remember. “It’s a dope track,” he continued. “Real mellow. I heard his verse, he gave me direction. I don’t ever do verses for people if they don’t give me no type of direction. If that’s the case, it might as well be my song. They don’t necessarily have to give me a verse, but a hook or something.”

As for his work with fellow Interscope signee 50 Cent, Q said that though the two hadn’t laid anything down yet, a collaboration is imminent. “We trying to get it together, we trying to pick the right record,” he said. “I don’t wanna just jump into nothin’, and give him anything. It gotta be right record. Same thing with him. But we definitely talk. Every time we see each other, we talk. We chop it up for like and hour. It ain’t just like, ‘Oh, what’s up with you, how you doin’?’ Last time we saw each other [in New York], we chopped it up for a long time. Good dude. We gonna get it together. Everybody knows that we fuck with each other, or I fuck with him, so we don’t wanna do nothin’ cliché. Gotta be right.”

When asked about when fans could expect a project from Black Hippy—the foursome that includes Q, Rock, Kendrick and Ab-Soul—the versatile rapper showed a lighthearted side. “Fuck Black Hippy; I hate Black Hippy,” he joked. “They always want us to do a Black Hippy project. We gon’ give it to niggas, though. I’m tryna be greedy. I’m tryna get some cash. Everybody else gettin’ money, I want some money, too.”

ScHoolboy Q's Habits & Contradictions is available now. Fans can catch him on tour with Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar and Chevy Woods on the Under The Influence Of Music Tour, which begins on July 26, in Cincinnati, Ohio. —Adam Fleischer (@AdamXXL)
