Jimi Hendrix’s Estate Shoots Down Biopic Set to Star Andre 3000
The Experience Hendrix, LLC, which is the company that oversees the deceased legendary rock star’s music and publishing, released a statement expressing a displeasure with the upcoming film.
“Various media outlets have recently published accounts that indicate a feature length Jimi Hendrix biographical film is nearing production,” the statement said, according to Billboard. Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.
WIth that said, it seemed that those handling the late rocker’s estate weren’t resigned to never cosigning a picture about the rocker. “Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a ‘biopic’ in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.”
Though it looks like he won’t end up playing a fellow storied musician, odds are that Andre 3000 will get another crack at the big screen. His past acting credits include Families, The Shield, Be Cool, Revolver, Semi-Pro, Four Brothers and Idlewild. Most recently, Three Stacks has made his mark on the small screen, appearing in commercials for Gillette’s Master of Style ad campaign.
On the music side of things, as of now, there are no immediate plans a new OutKast album nor a solo effort from Andre 3000. —Adam Fleischer
