?uestlove Gifts Jay-Z an iPod Filled with 4,000 Songs For Blue Ivy

Jay-Z and Questlove have developed a well-documented friendship during their shared decades in the music industry. This weekend, The Roots drummer helped commemorate what had to be one of the happiest moments of Hov’s life from earlier this year when he gave the rap star and his wife, Beyonce, a gift for their newborn daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

Questlove is known, in addition to his drumming talents, for his encyclopedia-like knowledge of music; he looked to bestow some of that wisdom upon his friends’ child by giving BIC an iPod. It wasn’t just any MP3 player, though. “I put like 4,000 songs on it,” Questlove said, according to the New York Daily News. “Ironically, I only got to the letter J,” he added, reasoning why he didn’t hit the 12,000 song goal that he had set. “We have a system now where I’ll re-up it once a year, every Christmas.”

Back in March, Questo spoke with the Associated Press about his relationship with Jiggaman, and credited the heavyweight for the role he has played in the career of The Roots. “[Jay-Z] didn’t want to be known as the bad guy that killed The Roots,” he said. “I told Jay, ‘Like man, that would be nice to have all my records debut at No. 1 and stuff.’ But he’s like, ‘Yeah, but you’re just looking at that. I got to deal with beef with this cat and that cat. Every year, some rapper’s going to take a potshot and I got to take the gloves out the closet and start training.’…[Jay-Z] sees me as an artist making my dream come true. Like, he wants to be seen as a true artist, not the richest guy in hip-hop. Meanwhile, I would like 13 zeros in my account.”

Questlove made headlines last week while, during his nightly gig playing drums on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, he backed Barack Obama as the President “Slow Jammed The News.” Meanwhile, Jay-Z launched his game Empire on Facebook. According to the press release for the game, “Empire takes you on a journey from the streets of Marcy Housing in Brooklyn to the hotspots of the rich and famous: from hustler, to entrepreneur, to business mogul. But, don’t forget friends and family, or your karma will suffer. Make the right choices and you can have it all: cash, bling, fame, street cred, and good karma.” —Adam Fleischer (@AdamXXL)

Questlove at times can be an ass but he gets to see Jay-Z at the true essence of an artist. Questlove also has been doing his thing himself with the Roots for years. One of my favorite groups period.
